Old Money Romantic Engagement Photos | 30A Florida Engagement Photographer & Super 8 Videographer
I am still completely in awe of these old money romantic engagement photos here in 30A, Florida. The couple, the outfits, the timeless Super 8 video, the whole nostalgic-yet-romantic vibe, when I say it’s everything dreams are made of, I mean it. If you’re looking for engagement photo inspiration that’s a little different from the typical beachside session along the Emerald Coast, this one’s for you. Keep reading to see how this styled shoot came together and how you can pull ideas from it for your own session.
A Beautiful 30A Model Real Couple
Madds and MJ are a stunning real couple here in 30A and yes, I emphasize “real couple” because this was a styled shoot. As both a photographer and a bride-to-be myself, I know how important it is to see true connection when you’re pulling inspiration for your own photos. These two are so fun, stylish, and completely in love. In fact, they dreamed up this entire shoot themselves and didn’t miss a single detail.
With elevated fashion choices, vintage touches, and a clear “old money romance” vibe, their session felt effortlessly chic and timeless. The fact that they’re madly in love and recently engaged made it even more special. Their goal was to create something that felt rich, elegant, and romantic. I think we can all agree they nailed it. ❤️🔥
If you’re a vendor looking for a stunning couple for a styled shoot, you’ll for sure want to check them out!
Photos At Eden Gardens State Park: Why You Should Consider & What You Need To Know
One of the biggest things I talk through with every couple I photograph is location. The vibe you’re going for plays a huge part in where we shoot. For these old-money, romantic engagement photos, finding a spot that felt timeless, elegant, and lush was essential. Eden Gardens State Park ended up being the perfect backdrop. With its huge live oaks draped in Spanish moss, beautifully manicured gardens, and the historic Wesley Mansion, it gave us the classic, “old money” feel we were looking for while still being a relaxed spot.
Eden Gardens State Park is one of my favorite options for anyone wanting greenery instead of the beach here along 30A and the Emerald Coast. While the beaches are stunning (and always a popular pick), sometimes you might want something different, that’s great, this location is a total gem.
Here’s what you need to know if you’re considering Eden Gardens for your session:
Permit & Fees: No photography permit is needed. There’s just a $4 per car entrance fee, which you can pay online ahead of time here (no worrying about cash at the gate).
Parking: Easy on-site parking near the main entrance.
Cell Service: Reliable, so you can contact your photographer or friends if needed.
Facilities: Public restrooms are available.
Pets: Dogs are welcome as long as they’re leashed, but they aren’t allowed inside the historic Wesley House.
Crowds: It’s usually pretty quiet! I’ve rarely run into large crowds, though they do allow events or weddings.
Best Light: About 2–3 hours before sunset. The trees create gorgeous filtered light, but once the sun dips behind them, it gets dark quickly — so earlier evening is best.
Year-Round Beauty: The gardens stay gorgeous all year, but they’re especially dreamy in late winter and early spring (I’m excited to check it out this year). According to my research 🤓 Camellias start blooming in November and continue through early spring, while azaleas burst into color from late February through April, with March usually being peak bloom. Regardless of anything being in bloom here it’s always a guarantee that it will be stunning.
Extra Note: They do allow weddings and community events here, so check the park calendar before your session. Arrive early if there’s an event so you can avoid busy areas.
Respect the Space: As with any public location, remember it’s not fully private. Be kind to other visitors, stay aware of your surroundings, and leave everything better than you found it.
All of this information can be found on the official Eden Gardens State Park website, and I highly recommend double-checking there before you book your session to make sure details like fees, hours, and event schedules are still accurate. This spot is perfect for couples looking for an elegant, garden-inspired alternative to the beach, and it photographs beautifully every time.
Outfit Inspiration For Your Engagement Photos
Let’s talk outfits! They’re one of the most common questions I get (and honestly, one of my favorite topics!). At the time I’m writing this, I’m planning my own engagement photos too, so I totally understand the pressure of finding pieces that feel perfect but also photograph beautifully. I’ve even been sharing my own outfit-trying-on journey over on Instagram, you can check it out here. 💍
Madds and MJ absolutely nailed their look for this session. Madds wore a stunning white Meshki set, and MJ kept it effortlessly classic with a linen button-up and tailored pants. They stuck to one main outfit but played with small accessories like Madds’ chic head scarf and statement sunglasses to change up the vibe without a full outfit switch. Those little details instantly elevated the look and gave the photos that extra “wow” factor while keeping everything cohesive and timeless.
Their neutral yet elevated color palette paired beautifully with the lush greens and soft neutrals of Eden Gardens State Park. If you’re planning a session somewhere green, this is a perfect example of how to keep it elegant and beautiful with the space.
I’ve also put together a curated list of engagement outfit ideas that match this vibe. You can check it out here if you’re currently in the middle of outfit shopping! Whether you want something classic and timeless or a little more fashion-forward, the key is to choose pieces that feel like you and make you feel comfortable!
Engagement Photos With an Old Money Romance Theme
This shoot obviously had a theme and if you’ve been counting how many times I’ve said “old money romance” so far… well, it’s probably a lot. Hah! Not every session needs a theme (and that’s totally okay). Sometimes it’s fun to be inspired by something specific. Maybe you’re loving the “old money” vibe like Madds and MJ, maybe you want apple orchard coziness, a sailboat adventure, or something as simple as a casual picnic on the beach. Themes can also be subtle: carefree, coastal, mountain, editorial. They don’t always have to be elaborate, it’s really about what you want it to feel like.
For Madds and MJ, the old money romance vibe just fit. The location, their outfits, and the little details all worked together seamlessly. They shared a glass of wine on the front porch, “smoked” a cigar, ran through an open field, and danced around the yard. It felt like the opening scene of your grandma’s favorite classic love story. Eden Gardens State Park, with its historic mansion, grand oaks, and timeless gardens, was the perfect setting to pull everything together. Had this been shot at a sleek, modern venue with a dramatic ball gown, it wouldn’t have felt nearly as simple, elegant, and chic as this did.
When, How, & Why to Include Props in Your Engagement Photos
Props and little details can add so much personality to your photos; but only when they make sense for you. I photograph plenty of couples who show up with nothing but themselves (and that’s perfect, your love doesn’t need extras). I’ve also had couples who bring tons of fun details, and I love that just as much. My biggest advice? Bring props when they fit the vibe you’re going for or hold meaning to your relationship. Don’t feel pressured to include something just because you think you “should.” If it doesn’t add to the story, it’s totally okay to skip it.
For this session, Madds and MJ went all in on thoughtful details that tied perfectly into their old money romance vision. We had:
A classic lipstick moment for that elevated, feminine touch.
A picnic basket and blanket set up for cozy, romantic vibes.
A head scarf that instantly felt chic and timeless.
Jewelry pieces that added subtle elegance.
A cigar, a nostalgic nod that felt straight out of a vintage love story (it reminded me of my great-grandpa sitting with a cigar and a big smile).
Sunglasses for that cool, editorial vibe.
Classy, elevated heels to complete the look.
My Super 8 film camera, which brought an extra layer of nostalgia. I captured Madds and MJ (and all the little details) on Super 8, but I also had them take clips of each other. This was a fun, interactive moment that made the gallery feel even more personal.
And of course, the rocking chairs already on the porch at Eden Gardens, which couldn’t have been more perfect for the setting.
Everything felt natural, nothing looked forced or out of place. The picnic details stayed cozy on the blanket, the accessories were used in the flow of the shoot, and the Super 8 camera was such a cool way to add storytelling to the gallery.
This is a perfect example of how props can work with your theme instead of distracting from it. When they’re intentional, they help tell your love story in a way that feels personal and unique.
Super 8 Nostalgic, Timeless, & Dreamy Videography in Destin & 30A Florida
One of my absolute favorite touches from this session was the nostalgic, timeless feel of Super 8 film, it’s pure chef’s kiss. 👩🏼🍳💋 I’ve started offering Super 8 as an add-on to every session I photograph because it brings the most magical, vintage-inspired vibes. It fit the “old money romance” theme here perfectly, but honestly, I think Super 8 works with any session style.
There’s just something about watching your love story unfold on grainy, dreamy film that feels straight out of a different era. It’s playful, sentimental, and so full of emotion. Whether your shoot is modern and editorial, coastal and carefree, or classic and romantic like this one, Super 8 adds that extra nostalgic touch you’ll want to relive forever.
