I genuinely haven’t stopped thinking about them (or obsessing over them) since we got absolutely poured on during one of Destin, Florida’s rainy spring days back in May. Olivia and Ross’s announcement photos are what all of our “The Notebook” meets Pinterest meets rainy-day magazine cover dreams are made of. And honestly, they’re the perfect sign—if you happen to be looking for one—to just go for it, even on a rainy day. Meet Soon To Be Mom And Dad
Aka Olivia and Ross, the sweetest couple ever. I absolutely adored working with them and couldn’t be more excited for their next big adventure. Olivia reached out ahead of their trip to Florida for Mother’s Day weekend, hoping to plan a fun sunset beach session to document this moment and, of course, share their exciting news with friends and family.
We planned exactly that: a dreamy, sunset shoot on the beach. But instead, we were met with one of the rainiest spring days—seriously, an all-day downpour. The morning started out a little sunny (kind of), but it was definitely cloudy. As we watched the forecast throughout the day, we knew rain was inevitable. It would lighten up for a bit, only to start pouring again minutes later. We went back and forth about what to do, rescheduling wasn’t an option since Olivia and Ross were only in town for the weekend. Plus, Olivia really wanted to use the photos to announce that she was going to be a mama on Mother’s Day—did I mention this was the day before?
With no natural light studios to rent last-minute around here, and with the beach backdrop being so hard to beat, we decided to go for it. And honestly, I’m always game for that. My go-to mindset on a rainy day is the “let’s just send it and see what happens” approach, lol. Olivia was totally the same—she even said she was the bride who would get married outside rain or shine. My kind of girl. And knowing all of that, I really think the rain was meant for these two in the most beautiful, cinematic, perfectly chaotic way.
The Perfect Spot For Beach Photos In Destin, Florida
Rain or shine, finding the perfect spot for sunset photos on the beach—especially in the Florida heat—requires a few key things: easy accessibility, ample parking, and, of course, a gorgeous beach. Along Destin and 30A, there are tons of beach access points, but not all of them are ideal. Some involve a long, sweaty walk or the chaos of circling for a parking spot, all while trying to make it in time for that dreamy golden hour. That said, there are a handful of state parks and beach access spots with more reliable parking that I always try to prioritize to keep sessions stress-free.
For Olivia and Ross’s session, we planned on Henderson Beach State Park. There’s a $4 entry fee, but it’s so worth it for the peace of mind, easy parking, a simple meetup spot, and sometimes even a less crowded beach. (Not like crowds were going to be an issue on this particular day, lol.) The park also has a beautiful covered picnic area, it was perfect for us to snap a couple photos before braving the storm.
Inspiration From The Most Stunning Beach Photos
Olivia and Ross looked so good—they truly couldn’t have picked better outfits for the day. Ross’s khakis paired with a textured white top, and Olivia’s drop-waist, off-the-shoulder tan dress? Stunning. The neutral tones against the high tide and crystal-clear blue waters (yes, even in the rain) worked beautifully. And Olivia’s dress? So flattering and the perfect way to show off her beautiful lil baby bump. If you are looking for outfit inspiration my biggest piece of advice forever and always is to find whatever it is that you love and feel good in because when we feel good we look good, right?! You can’t go wrong with some neutrals and textures on the beach.
